The Big Dream
We tell our children to dream big, so we think we should do the same with Roobee Roo.
Every big dream needs somewhere to begin.
Ours begins with providing 100,000 nourishing meals each year through our charity partner, SecondBite. By donating a portion of every sale, we can help ease food insecurity in Australia while working towards something real and meaningful today.
But Roobee Roo has a much bigger dream for tomorrow.
We want Roobee Roo's success to help make childhood richer: with nourishment, opportunity, creativity, nature, inspiration and beautiful places in which to learn and play.
Every child should have the chance to find the things that make them curious, excited and completely absorbed.
Art. Music. Dance. Drama. Writing. Making things. Growing things. Discovering the natural world. Reading a book and suddenly wanting to know everything about something you had never thought about before. That's what Roobee Roo is all about. It's about waking up every morning, excited to make, do and learn.
As Roobee Roo grows, we would love to help create more of these opportunities, firstly with meaningful stories, educational tools and products, then by helping families access classes and programs, supporting wonderful community initiatives, or creating new ones of our own.
It's no secret that wonderful childhoods are made richer by wonderful people.
Teachers, artists, writers, illustrators, musicians, dancers, performers, makers and environmental educators have a marvellous way of opening doors children did not know were there.
One day, we would love to support more of them too, through grants, commissions, awards and meaningful creative work that benefits children.
And then there is the really big dream.
One day, we would love to build a place where all of these ideas can live together.
Imagine a collection of beautiful buildings nestled among gardens and places to play.
There might be art studios and music rooms, dance and performance spaces, classrooms and workshops, exhibitions, gardens, a children’s bookshop and a rather wonderful toy shop filled with beautiful, meaningful toys sourced from local and international designers who cherish the art of play.
Children could come to paint, play music, write stories, grow something, make something, see a performance, discover a book, learn from someone inspiring or simply spend an afternoon following their curiosity.
Artists could work there. Writers could write there. Musicians could rehearse there. Teachers could teach there.
Above all, it would be a place created for children, and for the people whose work makes childhood more imaginative, creative and connected to the world around them.
Perhaps, in time, there could be smaller places like it in other communities too. Little pouches of magic in the suburbs.
We do not know how long any of this might take, or exactly what Roobee Roo will become along the way.
The dream will almost certainly change as we do. Or rather, grow. New ideas will appear. Some old ones will grow into something quite different. And a few things will probably find their way out of the pouch when we least expect them.
For now, we have 100,000 meals to provide.
And somewhere beyond that is a garden, a music room, a paint-splattered table, a stage, a shelf full of books and a child discovering something they love for the very first time.
That seems like a rather lovely thing to grow towards.
After all, what is the point of having a magical pouch unless you create a little magic with it?
