The Big Dream
We tell children to dream big, so we think we should do the same.
Every dream needs somewhere to begin. Ours begins with providing 100,000 nourishing meals through our charity partner, SecondBite. Donating a portion of every sale to help ease food insecurity in Australia is something real we can work towards today, while holding onto a much bigger idea for tomorrow.
As Roobee Roo grows, we want to find more ways to help create the things children need around them: nourishment, opportunity, creativity, nature, inspiration and beautiful places in which to learn and play.
We do not know exactly what that will look like yet. I suppose that is rather the point of a big dream.
Regardless, we want Roobee Roo’s success to make childhood richer.
When Roobee Roo grows, we would love that growth to create more opportunities for children to discover what they love, while supporting the people and places that make those discoveries possible.
And one day, if we dream very, very big, we would love to create a place where all of those things can come together.
That is the dream we are growing towards.
As Roobee Roo grows, the dream can grow with it.
We are not trying to do everything at once. Right now, our focus is simple: grow Roobee Roo, give more meals, and reach our first goal of 100,000 meals provided through SecondBite.
But when we are fortunate enough to grow beyond that, we want to keep asking the same question:
How do we create more opportunities for children to discover what they love?
Every child should have the chance to discover the things that make them curious, excited and completely absorbed.
As Roobee Roo grows, we would love to help create more opportunities for children to experience art, music, dance, drama, writing, making, gardening and the natural world.
That might mean helping families access classes and programs, supporting community initiatives, or creating new opportunities of our own.
The form may change over time, but the idea is simple: more children should have the chance to find the things they love.
Wonderful childhoods are shaped by wonderful people. Supporting creativity for children also means supporting the people who create it.
Teachers, artists, writers, illustrators, musicians, dancers, performers, makers and environmental educators introduce children to ideas and experiences they might carry with them for the rest of their lives.
One day, we would love Roobee Roo to support more of these people through grants, commissions, awards, creative opportunities and meaningful work.
And one day, perhaps we could build something much bigger.
Our biggest dream is to create a place where all of these ideas can come together.
Imagine a beautiful community space of interconnected buildings, surrounded by gardens and places to play, with rooms for music, art, dance, writing, making and learning.
There could be studios and teaching spaces, exhibitions and performances, workshops and gardens, a children’s bookshop, a beautiful toy shop, and places for people who make wonderful things for children to work alongside one another.
Children could come to learn something new, make something with their hands, hear and learn music, see an exhibition, explore a garden, discover a book or simply spend a happy afternoon being curious.
Above all, it would be a place created for children, and for the people whose work makes childhood more imaginative, creative and connected to the world around them.
We do not know exactly where the dream will take us, or how long it will take to realise.
Roobee Roo will change as it grows, and we hope this dream will change with it.
There will be ideas we have not thought of yet, opportunities we could never predict, and probably a few things that find their way out of the pouch when we least expect them.
What matters to us now is having somewhere meaningful to grow towards.
After all, what is the point of having a magical pouch unless you create a little magic with it?
